The Gnomish Ghetto

The Gnomish ghetto is (naturally) home to Scuttlepegs ever increasing Gnomish population. Some almost consider it two districts; since the vast influx of wealth to the Northern part. Due to the high demand for gnomish technology and biothauamaturgy, almost everyone has been to the area at least once. When first settled, the Gnomes picked an area closest to what they remembered in the old continent. Quite hilly, the roads of the district rise and fall over the Gnomish clan homes. In a further attempt to raise money for experiments; many clans have decided to build on top of their burrows, building various structures of organic and inorganic variety. Visitors to the area are loathe to attend Gnomish social events and functions: You are either cramped into a burrow, or have to deal with a failed “housing experiment.” Currently, Gnomish biothaumaturgists have begun building in organic tissue, after learning how to create and shape it with out the need for a previous living organism, and many of the newer structures are merely vast ribcages of hair and bone. The second trend dominating the area is the pursuit of the next flying device. Incapable of recreating Wigglewraks design, many gnomes are pursuing different means, with mostly catastrophic results. Accidents and fires are common in the area.
Gnomish security in the Ghetto is lax at best. Lacking the funding of the wealthier clans in the north (and some say the talent) the southern clans depend on a task force of patrol golems to keep the streets safe. The Southern Gnomish Ghetto is also one of the more cluttered districts; with the streets being full of debris and experiments. (And lets just say that the street cleaning machines appear to better at running over Gnomes, than cleaning…)

  • Flying Pig Aeronaughtics: Home to Buddleflup Clatterclank, the first research assistant to Alphonso Wigglewrak, this factory is the only other in Scuttlepeg with access to airship technology. While their work is good enough; customers still see them as a second best choice, and many other clans are making good business changing the Clan seal on a Flying Pig Airship into a copy of the Wigglewrak seal.
  • Beaker St: Beaker street is where most of the poorer clans of the southern part of the district go to market. It is a small street of a few blocks, crammed with stalls, carts, and stores. It is slowly growing a criminal reputation; with rumors of drug and illegal technology being sold.
  • Bonesetter Way: Bonesetter way is the closet thing the Gnomish Ghetto has to an art colony. Home to the major gnome clans who specialize in Biothaumaturgy; it is slowly rising to the same level of wealth the gnome clans in the north enjoy. Bonesetter way is the one place where anything can happen, and the current joke is that more Elves go there than gnomes. Competition in the area is fierce with each clan hiring a signature model to show off their work, and many Elves would maim to be in that position; even if what the Gnomes do to them is not that different from being maimed in the first place. This is the area were trends in the city germinate.
